Membership

Join a community learning and sailing together from Granville Island.

The West Coast Sailing Club (WCSC) aims to be a sailing community focused on socialization, collaboration, and skill development. Members book club boats to sail with other members, family, and friends — not as a charter company.

All members need Sail Canada Basic Crew or Basic Cruising certification plus a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC). Club skippers also require a VHF certificate (ROCM-DSC).

Skipper progression

  • New members begin as Club Crew. After three sails with members, you may take a checkout sail to become a Club Skipper on the San Juan 24s.
  • New Club Skippers complete at least three day sails with members before taking guests as crew.
  • Celeste skippers need Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising, separate checkout, and three member day sails before guests or cruising.
  • Walkabout skippers must have skippered Celeste (three day sails + one successful three-day cruise), separate checkout, and demonstrated proficiency.

Sail training

If you need Sail Canada certification before joining, contact a local school such as Simply Sailing. Equivalent credentials from other organizations may challenge the Basic standard — ask the club.
